USDA Rural Development provides: (1) $150 million for the cost of assistance to areas affected by hurricanes, floods, and natural disasters occurring in calendar year 2008 that have been declared a major disaster by the President under Title IV of the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act of 1974, 42 U.S.C. 5121, et seq., and (2) $38 million for single and multi-family housing assistance to areas affected by hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Pursuant to section 10101(c) of the Act, the Secretary of Agriculture may waive any limits on population, income, or cost-sharing otherwise applicable to a project or activity.
